Monk’s Kettle Relocates to the East Bay
Goodbye to the Mission District:
After 16 years serving as a beloved spot for laid-back vibes and high-quality beer and burgers in San Francisco’s Mission District, Monk’s Kettle is bidding farewell to its original location at 3141 16th Street. The establishment will relocate its operations to Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood. Co-owner Christian Albertson announced the closing, citing an expiring lease and a larger location and better deal opportunities in Oakland. The San Rafael outpost will not be affected by this move.
As part of the farewell, Albertson wrote a heartfelt letter titled “Reflections on a 16-Year Run on 16th Street.” In his letter, Albertson recalled a very different landscape in San Francisco when Monk’s Kettle first opened its doors in 2007. They highlight changing food trends, lament the impact of app-based delivery services and the influx of temporary tech workers. The city’s restaurant scene. Albertson shares the challenges facing small business owners in an increasingly transient city.
Monk’s Kettle Moved to Rockridge:
Monk’s Kettle will take over the former Citron’s location at 5484 College Avenue in Rockridge. The new location promises an open floor plan with a spacious bar area, complete with the iconic lion head back bar that fans love. Additionally, a dining room with a large back deck, located next to a lemon tree and overhead trellis, will provide a charming setting for patrons. Parklets in front of the restaurant will increase seating capacity, giving guests more opportunities to enjoy their experience.
Closing events and sales will be held in the coming months, giving patrons a chance to reminisce with the cellar’s old menu and beers. Updates about these events will be posted on Monk’s Kettle’s social media channels. Albertson expressed excitement about the move to Rockridge, envisioning the new location as a neighborhood tavern where old friends and new faces can come together to create fond memories.
