Metropolitan Nashville Police announced the tragic discovery of the body of University of Missouri student Riley Strain in the Cumberland River Friday morning. “The body of Riley Strain was found this morning in the Cumberland River in West Nashville, about 8 miles from downtown,” the police department said. Although no foul play-related trauma was observed, an autopsy is pending.

Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake said at a press conference that authorities received a call around 7:28 a.m. from a worker at a nearby business who found Strain’s body after removing something from the river. The city fire department simultaneously pulled the body from the water, and the medical examiner’s office later confirmed Strain’s identity.
